Direct debit

With direct debits, you give organisations the authority to take regular payments from your account automatically, so you don't have to worry about remembering to make a payment.

How it works

Direct debit payments can be for variable or fixed amounts.

When you’re paying bills by direct debit and the amount changes each month (e.g. power or phone bills), the organisation you’re paying needs to let you know how much the payment will be, usually at least 10 days before it comes out of your account.

Avoid failed payments

Sometimes, for whatever reason, you may not have enough money in your account to cover a payment, which can result in your payment failing.
